Many pastors and individuals have asked, “How can we provide an opportunity for kids and their families to enjoy a camp experience that will encourage them to sign up their son or daughter for summer camp?” “A Taste of Camp” will be that open house opportunity that will include many camp activities for both potential campers and other family members to enjoy. This event is specifically designed for children to come with an adult who can be a family member, church leader, or another individual (child who comes along with another family).

Cost: $10 a family, $5 for an individual.

There are many new and exciting camps at Pictured Rocks! Be sure to check out the 2010 Summer Catalog, which describes all the camps, or view/download the 2010 Pictured Rocks Brochure, which has all the camps offered at Pictured Rocks this summer. The number of campers is limited, especially for Adventure Specialty Camps so be sure to register early.

This summer you will find an endless number of new and exciting changes to look forward to! There are Adventure Specialty Camps each week and new water journey choices in addition to swimming at the Camp Courageous indoor pool facility. Week long adventure campers will have the option to build water pressure bottle rockets or create a structure to successfully drop an egg off the climbing tower without it breaking. The “Tebin” outpost site structures have been converted into a nature shack and craft hut. (Thanks Decatur UMC) Each camper will get to create a nature craft and while they are learning about nature they will explore the rock bluffs and hiking trails. Finally, we will also be adding “The Fire Cracker” to our climbing tower. This is a swaying rope ladder that will not only challenge our campers, but will have them laughing in the process.

Of course our main focus will still be small group ministry through Bible study and evening campfires. All of this led by our caring summer staff who consist of Seminary students, college education majors, and long time Pictured Rocks campers who have transitioned from campers to Jr. Staff to full time summer staff!

On Saturday, April 24^th Pictured Rocks will be having their 1^st annual eastern Iowa youth rally! This day event is for any and all youth groups. The event will take place in the campground area of camp starting at 2 PM. It will include:

• Ultimate Frisbee Tournament for Youth Groups

  • Winner receives a free night stay (up to $500) at Pictured Rocks

• Frisbee Golf Tournament for individuals

  • Winner receives $200 off of a 2010 summer camp.

• Free picnic supper and SMORE’S

• Evening Bonfire

• Live Worship

• Guest Speakers

Worship bands looking to play, or other youth groups hoping to show off their special talents should contact the camp office!

Groups planning to attend need to register with the camp office prior to the event. We also ask each group to help by providing a few snacks: chips, pretzels, or homemade desserts, etc.

We need your help! Spend a day outside serving God while helping us get the camp ready for summer. Come as an individual or bring a group. Lunch is provided!

We are currently seeking out individuals with high energy and a passion for sharing Christ to work at Pictured Rocks for the summer. We have two staff support positions for incoming H.S. Seniors and 10 counselors (5 male and 5 females) positions are available. Employment would be for nine weeks out of the summer, June 10th through August 12th.
