Camping Ministry Myths

Myth One: Many people believe camping ministry still involves sleeping in tents, cooking over a fire, dealing with bugs and weather as they try to learn about God while immersed in His creation. Although this is one option; most people use our heated and air conditioned lodges and enjoy our homemade meals prepared in our commercial kitchen.

Myth Two: The number of participants is the best way to evaluate the effectiveness of a youth ministry.  At Pictured Rocks, we believe the personal relationship each youth has with Christ is the most important, and we will design a successful retreat / program for your group no matter how small your youth group.

Myth Three: Adventure Programming (team building, climbing, etc.) is completely safe and can be done anywhere by anyone.  Actually, AP can be very dangerous without proper equipment and facilitators.  At Pictured Rocks UM Camp, our equipment and facilities are inspected by certified professionals and lead by well trained facilitators.

Myth Four: Only people under 30 can be good youth workers or volunteers at a camp or church. If you love God, and have a passion to do God's work with students, you have all the qualifications necessary! Your faith journey, with all it's ups and downs will speak into the life of students!
